Reflection, not diagnosis

Meet Bandura.

An AI companion that has already read your week. No recap, no context-setting, no explaining who you are again — just start talking about the thing.

An AI character — not a person, and not a licensed professional.

Why it exists

Starting from scratch is exhausting.

The worst part of most mental health chatbots is the first five minutes. You open it feeling terrible and immediately have to become a narrator — who you are, what happened, what you already tried, what didn't work. By the time you've explained yourself you've lost the will to have the conversation at all.

Bandura opens having already reviewed your chart. Your recent mood check-ins, your medications, what you wrote, the sessions you've had before. It knows you had four rough days last week. It knows you started something new in March. So the conversation can start where it should — at the thing that's actually bothering you.

Ways in

Six words is a valid opening.

You don't have to know what you want to talk about. Tap the one that's closest and let it go from there.

😟 I'm anxious 😔 I feel low 😤 I need to vent 😴 Help me sleep 🧩 Process something 💭 I'm overthinking
  • Advice when you want it, questions when you need them — not endless therapy-speak deflection
  • Short paragraphs, because nobody wants an essay at 2am
  • Available at 3am, on a bus, in a bathroom at a party

Talk or type

Some nights you can't face typing.

Choose your mode at the start of a session. Text when you want to be careful with your words. Voice when you'd rather just say it out loud and be heard.

💬

Text mode

A normal chat. Re-read what you wrote, take your time, keep it quiet if there are people nearby.

🎙️

Voice mode

A proper spoken call. Talk the way you'd talk to a friend, hands down, eyes closed, lying in the dark.

📝

Notes back

Bandura can hand you something to keep — a note or a small assignment to try before the next session.

Across sessions

It notices what you stopped noticing.

The genuinely useful thing an AI can do here isn't sounding wise in one conversation. It's holding twenty conversations at once and spotting the shape you're standing too close to see.

“You come alive when you're making something or moving outdoors — climbing, camping, building things.”

An example of the kind of pattern Bandura surfaces from your own history

Insights like that get surfaced back to you as cards you can act on or dismiss. They come from your logs and your sessions, not from a generic content library.

Bandura's noticing cards, surfacing patterns from past sessions.

The name

Why "Bandura"?

Albert Bandura was a Stanford psychologist and one of the most cited researchers in the history of the field. His central idea was self-efficacy — the belief that your own actions can actually influence what happens to you.

His work showed that this belief isn't just a nice feeling. It predicts whether people persist through difficulty, how they respond to setbacks, and whether they try at all. And crucially, it's buildable — largely through the accumulated evidence of your own small successes.

Which is, more or less, the entire premise of this app. Log the days. Watch the line. Build the evidence that you can move it. The name is a reminder of what the whole thing is supposed to be for.

Being straight with you

What Bandura is not.

We'd rather tell you this on the marketing page than bury it in a settings screen.

🚫

Not a therapist

Bandura is an AI character. It is not a person, not licensed, and not supervised by anyone who is. Using it creates no clinical relationship.

⚠️

Not always right

AI can miss context and can be confidently wrong. Everything it says is a prompt for your own thinking — you're the one evaluating it.

🆘

Not an emergency service

It cannot monitor you and cannot respond to a crisis. If you're in danger, call or text 988, text HOME to 741741, or call 911.

🩺

Not a replacement

It's built to sit alongside professional care and make it work better — never to talk you out of getting it.

On your privacy in these conversations: what you write is transmitted securely to our AI provider to generate a response, and is not used to train public AI models. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and you can delete it permanently at any time. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Say the thing out loud.

Bandura is included in every Mind Matter subscription, unlocked from the first minute of the free trial.
